Policies - Kids’ Classes

Tuition Due Dates

Class fees are due at the time of registration for all classes and camps. Special arrangement can be made for payment in full on the first class day of a 6-week session for after-school classes, however, no enrollment or place in class will be confirmed until payment is received.

Late Fees

There is currently no late fee charged for payments made after the due date. Continuing timely payments from all Thimble Fingers customers will ensure that no late fee policy becomes necessary. In some individual cases of chronic lateness, a $15 per month fee may be added to subsequent billings.

Attendance

Regular attendance is important for any student serious about her/his learning experience. An effort will be made (with no guarantees) to provide make-up classes for absences due to illness or family emergencies if we are notified at least 24 hours prior to absence. Unused class fees due to non-attendance are not transferable across class types or terms, such as from a Sewing Camp to an After School session or from a Summer Camp to a Spring Camp; nor are they transferable from student to student.

Make-up Classes

Make-up classes are not guaranteed, and are available only within the term of the class or camp sessions, and only if there is space available in an alternate time slot. Make-up students will be added to an alternate class on a standby basis. No make-up classes are available after the term of classes or camps. Please be sure of your schedule before signing up, as multiple rescheduling of your class can lead to additional administrative fees -- and stay in touch with us about your schedule, so we can work with you! Please avoid being a no-show. It helps us keep the cost of our classes down.

Refunds

We try hard to make our classes work out for our students, but if your first class or two do not meet your expectations, a refund for the unused classes can be requested no later than 48 hours after the second class. An additional $25 administrative fee will be deducted from the refund amount.

Supplies

Students are responsible for the purchase of their own supplies, patterns, fabrics and other materials necessary for their sewing projects. Students must work with a pattern or kit for each project, whether it is purchased from Thimble Fingers or other commercial source. Due to copyright infringement laws, Thimble Fingers is not able to duplicate patterns from books nor allow students to share commercial patterns. The instructor is always available for consultation on appropriate projects and supplies.

Behavior

It is our goal to provide casual, enjoyable classes. However, behavior that compromises class safety or interferes with the teaching and learning process cannot be tolerated. Parents of any students unable or unwilling to conduct themselves appropriately will be duly notified. If behavior problems persist, the students in question will be dropped from enrollment, with no tuition refunds for unused classes.

Safety Disclaimer

Enrollment in a Thimble Fingers class implies an understanding that safety practices are taught and enforced in the studio at all times. Registration is not complete unless a parent/guardian has submitted the safety disclaimer at registration. Any student unable or unwilling to adhere to safety practices will be dropped from class.

Body Measurements

Sewing of clothing requires taking body measurements to determine pattern sizes, which involves superficial physical contact. Measurements are taken over the student's clothing and a restroom is provided for complete privacy when trying on sewing projects. Please notify the instructor of any special sensitivities on the part of a child or parent in this regard.

Policies - Adults’ Classes

Class Fees

Payment for all classes are due at the time of registration in order to confirm your reserved space.

Attendance

Our scheduling structure for the “Basics 1” and “Basics 2” classes is set up for maximum flexibility and convenience so that students may attend their classes at any of the scheduled class times, depending on availability of space in each session. However, our “use-it-or-lose-it” policy requires that the sets of six classes in “Sewing Basics” be used within 6 months of the first session attended.

Visitors in Class

For various reasons, including limited space and consideration of other students in class, visitors, including children, who are not registered participants are not allowed to be present during class sessions. Our open, flexible scheduling and our liberal cancellation policies are designed so that students may schedule their classes when they are free of other obligations to friends, family members, house guests or child care. An understanding of our desire to provide a quality classroom experience for everyone is appreciated.

Refunds

We try hard to make our classes work out for our students, but if you should determine that the basic sewing class does not meet your expectations, a refund for the unused classes can be requested within 48 hours after the second class. In order to have properly determined that the classes are inadequate, you must have attended both classes within a 7-day period. An additional $25 administrative fee will be deducted from the refund amount. No refunds or credits will be issued for any unused sessions after the six month expiration of your class sessions. Please be sure of your schedule before signing up – and stay in touch with us about your schedule, so we can work with you! It's very important to us that you succeed in becoming a sewing champ!!

Scheduling

Although scheduling for our Basics classes is flexible, the classes are not designed to be “drop-in.” It is necessary to reserve your place in any sessions you wish to attend. (One session per week over a 6-week period is the usual, but certainly not required.) Our online registration management system, MindBodyOnline, allows you to reserve your classes day-by-day or week-by-week, as your schedule allows. You're free to cancel and reschedule as needed – but please be sure to do so within 24 hours in order to avoid losing credit for your class. If you have had to interrupt your regular attendance for more than 3 weeks, it's advisable to get in touch with your instructor on the best time in the schedule to resume your classes. Don't forget that your class sessions will expire after 6 months from your first class!

Make-up Classes

Make-up classes are not necessary with our reservation system. But don't be a No Show!! If you can't get to class, be sure to cancel more than 24 hours ahead. There's no advance limit for reserving your class. Please be aware that late cancellation (less than 24 hours prior to class) or just plain not showing up will result in the loss of credit for your class.

Supplies

Students are responsible for purchasing their own supplies, patterns, fabrics and other materials necessary for their sewing projects. Students must work with a pattern or kit for each project, whether it is purchased from Thimble Fingers or other commercial source. Due to copyright infringement laws Thimble Fingers is not able to duplicate patterns from books nor allow students to share commercial patterns. The instructor is always available for consultation on appropriate projects and supplies.

Adult Workshop Sessions - Schedule and Refunds

These one-day classes must be attended on the scheduled, registered class dates only.

There will be no refunds or make-ups for any no-show or missed sessions of these classes; nor will the value of missed classes be transferred to other classes. A refund can be issued for a cancellation given 48 hours in advance of the class time, less a $25 cancellation fee.
